Geometry tops Kent Stakes this Saturday

Wilmington, Del., September 23, 2025 – Augustin Stable’s Geometry tops a field of twelve in the $150,000 Kent Stakes this Saturday. The mile and an eighth turf affair for 3-year-olds has been carded as the ninth race with an approximate post time of 5:19 pm.

Geometry finished fourth in his most recent effort in the one mile and an eighth $300,000 Grade II Del Mar Derby on the grass on August 31. Previously, the son of Twirling Candy won a one-mile turf allowance by a half-length at Del Mar on August 10. The Kentucky-bred trained by Jonathan Thomas has a career record of two wins from four starts with earnings of $131,150.

Jaques DuPuis Jr., Luke Bourque and Bobby Sutton’s Soleil Volant will be returning to the course where he broke his maiden when he posted a 1 ¼-length score going seven-and-a-half-furlongs last year at Delaware Park. Since then, the Kentucky-bred trained by H. Graham Motion has been knocking on the door against tough competition but has yet to notch his second career victory. In his most recent, he ran fourth in the mile and an eighth $500,000 Grade III Old Dominion Derby on the Colonial Downs turf course on September 6. He has a lifetime record of a win, two seconds and two thirds from 11 starts with earnings of $103,976.

“He finished fourth in the Old Dominion Derby to maybe the best 3-year-old grass horse in the country (World Beater),” said trainer H. Graham Motion.  “He (Soleil Volant) is doing very well. If he can run back to his last race, which I think is an indication he is returning to the form he had earlier this summer, he will be very competitive.  I really like the mile and an eighth for him. He needs the distance.”
