Whitten Way looks for second career stake win in Small Wonder

Wilmington, Del., September 8, 2026 — Hen Stakes at Delaware Park on August 8, the first stakes win of her career.

“She comes from a really nice family,” said trainer Gary Capuano, who won the Small Wonder with Enchanted Star in 2017. “The whole Steady N Love and Slow and Steady family has produced winner after winner and stake horse after stake horse. She is talented and professional. She really fought hard to win the Blue Hen in her last. The track came up muddy, there was a lot of rain, the conditions were far from ideal and turning for home, it did not look like we had much of a chance. I thought we were probably going to be fourth, but she kicked it in. She battled; she showed a lot of grit and was determined to get there.”

In her only other career start, the Maryland-bred daughter of Game Winner won by 1 ¾ lengths in a five-furlong maiden race at Delaware Park on June 24.

Capuano also entered London Reid Thoroughbreds and Kismet Thoroughbred Farms’ Martiniwithatwist.

All three of Martiniwithatwist’s starts have come at Delaware Park. Most recently, the Kentucky-bred daughter of Golden Pal won by 1 ¾ lengths against maidens going five and a half furlongs on July 31. She previously finished third in a five-and-a-half-furlong maiden on July 21 and second in a five-furlong maiden on June 17.

“Martini has gotten much better,” Capuano said. “She is an off-the-pace kind of horse. She does not break really sharp, but she shows a lot of guts and courage. The dirt does not bother her and if they start getting a little late through the stretch, she will be coming. Every race, she runs really well. She has run into a couple of tough ones and she will be facing some of them again, so we will see how she responds.”
